About Abstract Painting

Summary

This will be a 6-week class on What, Why and How abstract art is as powerful and meaningful as it is, when it is. There are many forms of abstraction and many ways that artists develop painting, going back millennia and in diverse cultures. We can say that “all art is abstract.” Why? Let’s look, and see.

We’ll explore what’s been done in the past and present, and how it was done. We’ll work with abstract approaches or “strategies” to making paintings ourselves. Participants can work in the medium of their choice.  This will be fun and engaging. And, understanding abstraction will improve your paintings generally. It will help you see and think in terms of the painting’s structure and dynamics.

We’ll also use an online photo sharing site for ongoing communication and critiques of our work. There will be instruction for photographing your work with your phone.

Cost

$360 for non-members and $300 for members for all 6 classes, to be paid through the Oregon Society of Artists (OSA).
