About

Prerequisite / Skill level: Intermediate - Advanced

Summary

You saw it. It’s just what you want. It’s fleeting and you don’t have time, or your paints aren’t with you, or it’s too damned wet and cold right now. What to do? Could you paint it later from a sketch and fragments of memory?

Yes, you could. If you know what’s essential.

The art of seeing and drawing the seen. The quick sketch–the élan vital. The longer study– measuring.  Notes of value and color. Memory’s meander.

From all this depth of observation you can recall it and paint it on a canvas in color. Will it be a realistic reconstruction? Likely not, but it could feel like that mysterious memory of something you really saw. Works with landscape, portrait, interiors, still life, or made up stuff out of your heart.

Cost

$350 (OSA members) or $385 (non-members) tuition for all 7 classes, to be paid through the Oregon Society of Artists (OSA).
