About Oregon High Desert Painting Workshop II

We’re in a wait and see mode for this workshop, but I’m hopeful that by October we can do it. Harney County has had zero confirmed cases and no deaths, although one person tested positive for an antibody test. In general, rural counties are hit less hard than cities. The Hotel Diamond (where we stay for the workshops) are taking appropriate precautions: assigned bathrooms, small tables for dinner, generally plenty of space and disinfecting everything. The worry, of course, is incoming visitors bringing the virus with them. WE must be extra careful, too. Assigned bathrooms means smaller capacity at the hotel, so our workshop will have fewer painters. In the desert countryside, of course, we’ll spread out.

In this four-day workshop we’ll explore on-site landscape painting in the heart of Oregon's stunningly beautiful sagebrush desert. The workshop will focus on creating the feeling of big desert space through the development of subtle color relationships and abstraction of the observed physical forms – buttes, valleys, mountains, plains and sky. Through composition exercises we’ll delve more deeply into purposeful distortion of the seen forms of land and sky.

The painting group will work out of Diamond in Harney County. Lodging and meals – scrumptious meals - at the Hotel Diamond. In October, the air will be a little cooler, the colors have Fall in them, and dawn comes a little later.
