First I saw the stain from concrete on the old plywood board. Its cool neutral grey contrast with the warm of the old fir plywood was exciting. What can I paint on that? Gradually I was drawn to a (17th c.?) Chinese scroll whose far left and far right ends were linked across miles of open water (open silk).

Kirk and I found a long hairpin bend in the Deschutes River. He painted the hills beyond and I the dragons in the river below. There are some monoprints of this too.
