About Beginning & Intermediate Woodcut Printing (Session I)
Let’s keep making woodcut prints!
Woodcut printing is the oldest form of printmaking and it’s still a bold and exciting print medium. Drawing on and cutting into the block is a direct way to make prints.
You’ll learn how to successfully design woodcuts from drawings. You’ll learn the safe and effective use of cutting knives and gouges, and how to sharpen them. Cutting tools are safest, and most effective, when sharp!
Beginners will start with simple designs, learning the basics of cutting, proofing and printing, and keeping tools sharp and safe.
Intermediate woodcut artists will up their game with more intricate designs, nuanced printing methods, controlling prints through a full edition, and bringing in color with additional blocks using a couple different methods of registration.
Everyone who registers for the class will receive a list of supplies that are available at certain local art supply stores: woodcut chisel and gouge set, particular papers, and a baren. All ink and some wood blocks and linoleum blocs will be provided.
Cost
$300 (OSA members) or $335 (non-members) tuition for all 6 classes, to be paid through the Oregon Society of Artists (OSA).
